Arlys K. Sikkink, age 68, died suddenly on Sunday, Nov. 24, 2019, at her home in Zumbrota.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 30 at United Redeemer Lutheran Church, 560 West Third St., Zumbrota with Rev. Dr. Marggi Pleiss-Sippola officiating. Burial will be in United Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be for two hours prior to the service Saturday at the church.
Arlys Kay Buhr was born on Oct. 26, 1951, in Cresco, Iowa to Arthur and Luella (née Hunemiller) Buhr. Arlys grew up on the farm and graduated from Cresco High School. She worked as a secretary at Mayo Clinic for eight years. On June 15, 1974, she married Alan Sikkink. They made their home in Zumbrota. Arlys was a day care provider and did day care in her home for 29 years, retiring in 2011. Arlys was an active member of United Redeemer Lutheran Church. She enjoyed watching and feeding the birds and squirrels, baking, gardening, doing jigsaw puzzles, spending time with friends and especially family. Arlys loved taking care of children and was a great day care mom.
Arlys is survived by her husband, Alan; daughters, Laura Sikkink of Rochester and Kathy Sikkink of Austin; son, Mark (Mara) Sikkink of Maple Grove; granddaughters, Lily and Emma Sikkink; brothers, Curtis (Sharon) Buhr of Boynton Beach, Fla., and Melroy Buhr of Elma, Iowa; brothers-in-law, Arnie Groszbach of Zumbrota and Francis Pflibsen of Rochester; nieces and nephew.
Arlys was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Luella Buhr; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Arden and Ruth Sikkink; and sisters-in-law, Sharon Groszbach and Karen Pflibsen.
Arrangements are with the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota.
