Jan Elizabeth Bernatz, 68, died Sept. 12, 2019.
Jan was born and raised in Rochester, graduating from Mayo High School in 1969. She went on to graduate from Colorado College in 1973 with a Bachelor of Arts in Education and earned a Bachelor of Science in Business from the University of Minnesota in 1981.
Beginning in 1984, Jan held various positions with Business Incentives, Inc., an Edina-based incentive travel company. As a director with the company, she traveled the world, finding great locations for her clients to hold meetings. She loved to explore new locations and engage with others. The definition of a "people person," Jan was absolutely devoted to her family and friends, always willing to jump in and help anyone in need.
While working on her business degree from the University of Minnesota, Jan served as a house mother to the Gamma Phi Sorority on campus. Her role allowed her to serve as a second "mother" to many undergraduates who needed a guiding voice or a good ear. Many of those women became life-long friends.
Jan is survived by her sister, Marcy Weinberger; brother, Michael Bernatz (Dawn); and nephews Michael (Sarah, son Nyan), James and Christopher.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Philip and Marilyn Bernatz of Rochester.
A Celebration of Life reception will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 5 at Washburn-McReavy Funeral Home, 5000 50th Street, Edina, Minn.
Donations may be sent to: Mount View Care Center, In memory of Jan Bernatz, 2400 Marshall Street, Wausau, WI 54403.
