The memorial service for Jerry D. Miller will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 7, at Peace United Methodist Church in rural Elgin/Plainview, with Pastor Cheryl Nymann officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in Plainview, with Military Rites by the Plainview American Legion.

Jerry Dean Miller, 83, of Plainview, passed away at his home on Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2019. He was born May 13, 1936, in Wessington Springs, S.D., to Robert and Hilda (Erickson) Miller. Jerry grew up and attended school in Wessington Springs. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp and later in the Army National Guard. On Nov. 23, 1958, he married Karla Sander in Lakefield.

Jerry spent his entire working career in the grocery business. He worked many years at Lanning's Food and Catering in Plainview before his retirement. Jerry enjoyed going golfing and bowling and especially enjoyed following his grandkids and great-grandchildren's sports activities. He was a member of Peace United Methodist Church, and a 40-year member of the Plainview American Legion.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Karla Miller of Plainview; three children, Cary (Michelle) Miller of Plainview, Lori (LaVerne) Steffen of Plainview, and Jeff (Rhonda) Miller of Eyota; 11 grandchildren, Amanda, Tyler, Breanna, Justin, Josh, Matt, Jenna, Zach, Alex, Brady, and Cadee; and 20 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and four brothers.

Friends and family may visit from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Plainview Chapel, and one hour prior to the service Monday at the church.

Memorials are preferred to Heartland Hospice Care, or a Cancer Foundation of your choice.
