Leona (Kranz) Munson, 94, passed away after a brief battle with pneumonia on Nov. 27, 2018, at Cottagewood Senior Communities.
Leona was born on April 2, 1924, in Zumbro Falls. She married Donald Munson in 1946 and farmed with him near Cannon Falls until they moved to Rochester in 1955.
She was a longtime employee of Wong’s Cafe where she waitressed for 28 years. She retired from Wong’s in 1987. Then she and her husband moved to Zumbrota, where she continued to waitress at the Coffee Mill for several more years.
Leona and Donald were avid polka fans and attended dances and festivals in the tri-state area for many years.
Leona was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; and also by her sisters, Edith (Louis) Allen and Nora (Carl) Schleusner; and brothers, George and Charles Kranz.
She is survived by daughter, Dorothy of Minneapolis; and sons, Duane (Yong Cha) and Douglas of Rochester; as well as many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:30 a.m. June 22, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Rochester, with a visitation beginning one hour prior. A graveside service for both Donald and Leona will be held at Vasa Lutheran Cemetery in Vasa following the Celebration of Life service.
