Lotus Ann Hanson, age 81, of Dexter, passed away Thursday, July 18, 2019, at Mayo Clinic Hospital Rochester, Saint Marys Campus.
Lotus was born March 7, 1938, in Waltham Township, the daughter of Edwin and Marie (Anderson) Paape. In 1954, while still in high school, she met Thomas Hanson at the local roller rink. The couple married on June 25, 1955, at St. Michael's Lutheran Church in Waltham. They lived in the Hayfield/Waltham area all of their lives, until recently moving to Dexter.
Lotus was a woman of strong faith and a lifelong member of St. Michael's Lutheran Church in Waltham. She was a very hard worker both in her career that spanned over 30 years at Crenlo in Rochester and at home raising her four children. She filled her free time tending her beautiful flower gardens, a large vegetable garden every year, and feeding and watching the birds. After her retirement, she was able to expand her gardens and enjoy them even more. She cherished time with her family, especially with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed watching the Minnesota Vikings, and collecting Precious Moments, coins, spoons and thimbles. Her family always tried to help expand her spoon and thimble collection when they traveled.
She will be dearly missed by all who loved her. Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Tom Hanson of Dexter; children, Todd (Mary) Hanson of Fredericksburg, Va., Jody (Dan) Morrisette of Austin, Dawn Lorentz of Kasson, and Lori (Chuck Kerrins) Hanson of Grand Meadow. She was also blessed with ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren with two on the way.
Those who journeyed ahead that she will join in heaven include: her parents, Edwin and Marie Paape; brother, Dean Paape; and grandson, Kelly Hanson.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, July 22, at St. Michael's Lutheran Church in Waltham, with Rev. Paul Hauschild officiating. Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday evening at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin and one hour before the service Monday at church. Interment will be in St. Michael's Cemetery in Waltham at a later date.
