Tom Marquez, of Rochester, passed away at Methodist Hospital Nov. 23, 2019, after a lengthy illness. He was 78.

Tom was born, raised and educated in Colorado, where he spent most of his life. His career included teaching, working as a field engineer for the Colorado Forest Service, before discovering his true passion in sales. He became a major account manager for NCR Corporation, Sharp Electronics and Micros Systems. He started his own sign company Mar-Kez Signs and Neon. He was an active member of many civic organizations and remained active in Optimist International after moving to Minnesota.

Tom is survived by his life partner, Eileen Prinsen; two children, Tom (Doreen) of Lakewood, Colo., and Melanie Marquez of Las Vegas, Nev.; six grandchildren, Cenea Piaz, Amber (John) Cutshall, Aero Marquez, Airiona Buckley, Keevyn Buckley and Gage Sain; and one great-grandson, Wesley Cutshall; and also by three brothers, Jerry (Zaida) Marquez, Bakersfield, Calif., Jim (Sarah) Marquez, Pueblo, Colo., and JB (Debbie) Marquez, Pahrump, Nev.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Arron and Josephine Marquez; and two brothers, Larry Marquez and John Marquez.

One of Tom's favorite rules to live by was, "To have a friend, you must be a friend." He will be greatly missed by many people.

Tom donated his body to Mayo Clinic. We will be giving thanks for his life at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 30 at Autumn Ridge Church in Rochester.
