Velma M. Buchanan 101, passed away peacefully Saturday, Aug. 10, 2019, at Seasons Hospice House in Rochester.
Velma was born Sept. 2, 1917, in Chatfield to Henry and Marie (Kammen) Oldenburg. In December 1939, she married Harold James Buchanan, in Chatfield, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
Velma was a member of the Degree of Honor organization and was in a few card clubs. She enjoyed going to the casino and coffee with her friends and family on a daily bases but, most of all, just being around family and friends.
She is survived by her son, James (Karen) of Oronoco; granddaughter, Tracy (Jody) Finck; great-granddaughter, Brianne (Jake); great-great-grandson, Jaren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; four brothers, three sisters, two daughters, one son, and two great-grandchildren.
A Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Rochester, with visitation one hour before services at the church. Burial will be at the Chatfield Cemetery.
Velma was one of the most resilient and beautiful human beings in this world. She showed so many how to overcome, with grace and dignity, the unimaginable circumstances that we encounter in life's journey. She will be greatly missed.
