Vernon William Urban, Jr., age 81, of Rochester, died Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2019, at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester.

Vernon was born April 4, 1938, in Winona, the son of Vernon and Bernice (Waechter) Urban. He graduated from St. Charles High School in 1956. 

Vernon honorably served his country in U.S. Army in Korea as part of the 504th Military Police Battalion for two years from 1961 to 1963. During this time, he was awarded several Marksmanship badges, including the Expert Badge with Rifle Bar, Sharpshooter Badge with Carbine Bar, and Pistol Bars.

Vernon was united in marriage to Marlene Burke April 6, 1963, and to this union two daughters were born. Vern and Marlene enjoyed 56 years of marriage. He began working for Crenlo in 1956, and retired after 51 years in 2003. Vern loved to ride motorcycles with his wife, Marlene. The couple also enjoyed hunting and spending time together outdoors. Vern was a furniture maker, and liked to work with his hands. Vern was very hands on around the house, and never once had to call a repair man. He was always willing to help out his neighbors, friends and family.

Vernon is preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by wife, Marlene; daughters, Kim (James Kame) Urban of Chandler, Ariz., and Kelly Stevens of Rochester; brothers, Kenneth (Pat) Urban of Owatonna, LaVayne (Pat) Urban of St. Charles, and Gordon (Carrie) Urban of St. Charles.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 16, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Rochester, with Rev. Adam Koglin officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Monday at the church. Interment will be at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Rochester.
